Our award-winning client is about to open Europe’s biggest gluten-free bread bakery. The Village Bakery, based in Minera, near Wrexham, has entered into a five-year partnership with the Swiss giant, the Hero Group. When it’s fully operational, the £3 million state-of-the art unit on Wrexham Industrial Estate will be making four million gluten-free loaves a year.

According to Joint Managing Director Robin Jones, Coxeys played a crucial role in steering them through the complex finances of the deal.

Mr Jones said: “Coxeys have been our accountants for 30 years and their advice and guidance has been fundamentally important to our continued success and growth. Being able to rely on their expertise was invaluable as we secured this wonderful partnership agreement with the Hero Group.”

The family-run firm, which employs 185 people at its main site, makes 750,000 loaves, rolls and pies every week. Setting up the new company, Village Bakery (Nutrition) Ltd marks a major expansion of their operation and will create 25 jobs.

The gluten-free range includes high-fibre and low-protein loaves along with bread made from linseed and oats as well as ciabattas and other Italian breads.  It will be marketed and distributed by the Hero Group in the UK and in Sweden, Finland, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

The firm have their own Training Centre on site and train people up to NVQ Level Two and Three in Bakery Technology so as they expand, they have got skilled operatives who can progress into supervisory or management positions.
